Hydration Health - Depression
You may wonder what hydration has to do with depression, but this article may surprise you. It is well known that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. After all, the brain is 85% water. So what happens when the brain loses water? Fatigue, lack of concentration, and you guessed it, depression.
When toxins such as alcohol pollute the brain and take water from it, energy gets sapped, and when that happens, the brain screams "hey, wait a minute here, you're shorting me the water I need and I want it back."
If this keeps happening, the brain feels neglected and this in turn can lead to depression. You might feel euphoric when you drink, but a hangover is a form of depression. Some suggest that for every 12 ounces of beer one may drink, you need to replace it with three times as much water to balance the loss in hydration.
Of course other things such as stress and personal problems lead to depression, but proper hydration should not be overlooked.
