Hydration Health - Weight Gain

There are all kinds of reasons why people gain weight, with the major culprits being over eating, lack of exercise, poor diet, and improper hydration. There are ways we can keep ourselves from overeating such as drinking 8 to 16 ounces of water thirty minutes before a meal, and eating five or six small meals instead of three big ones.

Our nation has become increasingly overweight and lack of exercise is a big cause. Everyone needs exercise to stay healthy, but unfortunately over 2/3 of Americans are overweight. There are many exercise programs on the market as well as many fitness clubs sprouting up all over. When starting any exercise regimen remember to start out slow and don't forget how proper hydration can help immensely.

Poor diet is probably the major culprit to weight gain. When we don't watch what we eat, it eventually catches up to us. Fast food and processed meals are everywhere and we are bombarded by ads promoting sugary products everyday.

The best thing you can do for yourself is start by eating unprocessed foods. These include leafy green veggies, plenty of fruit, and foods high in fiber. Next, try to stay away from greasy potato chips, deserts, and chocolates. Sodas and alcohol are high in calories. Some sodas have as 17 teaspoons of sugar in a 20 ounce serving, and even light beer contains 108 calories. Red wine 90 calories, rum, vodka, and the like 81 calories per 1.25 once serving.
